Construction Update – October

Hard to believe we are now on the final sprint towards opening our new Luxury Rooms

A vision first realised by James Peech 14 years ago, now about to become a reality. With just 9 weeks to go, the team are nose-to-the-grind-stone to ensure eveything is ready to welcome and woo our first ‘confirmed’guests in arriving Saturday 15th December. The other exciting news we have to share is that we decided (part way through the project) to add a Luxury 2 Bedroom Villa into the mix. Feedback we’ve had so far from Joburg based partners has been overwhelming! Already structurally complete, the Villa is also on track for completion before year end. Not yet released into inventory, however we will advise Villa rates and opening dates shortly.

So it’s official, The Peech Hotel will be 31 Rooms by year-end as follows:
1 x Luxury 2 Bedroom Villa (ideal for families)
2 x Peech Suites (existing)
14 x Luxury Rooms (new)
12 x Classic Rooms (existing)
2 x Heritage Rooms (existing, original main house)

Construction Update

Thank you for your continued support and patience throughout this year.
Structurally all 14 x Luxury Rooms are now complete; our fabulous double glazed stackable doors and windows have been installed, and the architecturally defining external steel and wooden cladding will be completed by end next week, Inside the new rooms our beautiful Oggie ‘green living’ oak herringbone floors have been laid and look amazing! Between 22nd Oct to 22nd Nov the team will complete floor tiling in bathrooms, installation of amenities, and fitting of purpose built décor (hand stitched leather bedheads, purpose made wardrobes, light fittings, curtain installation etc). Thankfully all of the ‘heavy’ building is well behind us, and the well managed construction team are now focused on snags, finishings and touch-ups. From here on it is manual labour, so noise from the new site will be minimal.

Landscaping

The early landscaping we undertook in July has loved the recent rainfall in Joburg, and our large African Olives and wild grasses and shrubbs are beginning to thicken out which is ideal. Starting next week our amazing landscaping team are back to create walkways and plant new and existing plants. In recent days we’ve watched the sunrise and sunset on the new site, the birdlife is abundant and remarkable to watch. Our guests are in for a treat if they enjoy waking up to the sound of birdsong.

Pool Area

Our new large swimming pool is in the ground and will be finished with marbelite during the first week of November. This involves manual work only, and should take no longer than 1-2 days to complete. In the meantime we have begun tiling and landscaping around the new pool. This week (15th to 22nd Oct) we have closed our existing swimming pool to carry out routine maintenance and upgrades during a week with predicted lower temps. During this time we are offering in-house guests complimentary access to the neighbouring Planet Fitness gym facility, including olympic sized pool. Alternatively we have arranged access to a nearby guest house for day lounging and outdoor swimming, complimentary transfers will be arranged upon request. Shortly The Peech will offer 2 enticing swimming pools; the original and smaller pool closest to our main house and bistro intended for families with younger children, the larger pool (suitable for lap swimming) ideal for couples, honeymooners or sun worshippers looking for total rest & relaxation. New umbrellas and plush sun loungers are on order!

New Rooms – Interior Décor

Working with the talented team of designers at Design Republic we have created an interior design theme which embraces sophisticated minimalism, whilst ensuring only that which is relevant and functional to modern travellers. Based on our commitment to sustainable tourism we have used finishes that are both conscious and simple. The décor theme employs a calm and peaceful monochromatic palette, with proudly local bursts of SA inspired hues and patterns – we like to call it “understated Afri-Chic”. Our vision is for guests to leave The Peech feeling relaxed, inspired and energized. Our Ongoing Commitment to Travel Partners & Guests:
The build site remains blocked out and fenced off, and although separate to the existing hotel grounds and operations, we will begin the process of reintegrating both properties over the coming weeks.

  • Hours & days of work remain firmly Monday to Friday, 07h30 – 16h00
  • No building over weekends or public holidays
  • Access to the construction site is via the neighbouring property and does not pass through the current hotel entrance or property
  • As a precaution we have implemented 24 hour security at the entrance to the hotel to ensure the absolute safety and comfort of our guests at all times
  • As owners living onsite we continue to manage all aspects of the construction project directly, and are trying our utmost to ensure there is minimal or no disruption to our hotel guests. Both James & Vicky Peech and our GM (Oliver Richter) are available to proactively handle any guest concerns that may arise.
