Launching ‘Basalt’ Restaurant

New restaurant experience to open at The Peech

The Peech Hotel has overhauled its entire F&B offering; with the exciting addition of a second restaurant named ‘Basalt’, an extensive refurb to our original dining space, plus phenomenal Head Chef Freddie Dias joining our team, guests at The Peech are in for a treat!

Basalt restaurant is a completely new space and concept, offering guests a more stylish and refined dining experience celebrating fine local food and wines in unison.  Situated in the original heritage house overlooking the hotels main entrance, Basalt will open to the public in early September.

Freddie is at the helm for both restaurants bringing with him vast experience and global inspiration garnered from his Portuguese roots, plus time spent cooking in some of the world’s finest (including Michelin starred) restaurants in Lisbon, Mexico, France and the UK, not to mention several years as protégé of locally acclaimed Luke Dale Roberts at The Pot Luck Club in Cape Town.

Taking over front of house is seasoned Maître D Lyle Scott (previously Westcliff Four Seasons and Marabi Club).  James, Freddie and Lyle have worked closely together over the past few months to ensure all design, operational and front-of-house aspects have been considered, resulting in the creation of 2 unique yet highly complimentary dining spaces. “We are incredibly excited about taking this opportunity to redefine our food and beverage offering and provide guests and local patrons with exceptional dining experiences at The Peech” says owner James Peech.

The original hotel restaurant has been expanded to include floor to ceiling double-glazed sliding doors, opening out under a shaded pergola, providing relaxed outdoor dining for our in-house guests exclusively.  This restaurant offers hotel guests fresh, light, seasonal meals throughout the day, ideal for weary travellers in need of rejuvenationstarting with a mouth-watering and energizing breakfast.  A centrally raised communal table encourages lone travelers to engage with fellow guests, or simply feel more welcome dining on their own. This bright and relaxing space is also ideal for young families dining together.

In both restaurants our F&B vision remains committed to producing locally inspired, creatively presented dishes using the best quality and freshest ingredients possible.
