Gourmet Guide 2024 Winner

For the second year in a row, Basalt is proud to be announced a winner at the annual JHP Gourmet Guide Awards, South Africa’s original, respected Plate Rating for restaurants.

In the words of Founder, Jenny Handley, SA Gourmet Guide includes “a carefully curated collection of fine-dining restaurants that range from classic to cutting edge. Each subscribes to high standards of excellence, this level achieved due to the relentless dedication of a community of talented chefs and their teams.”

At the 2024 JHP Gourmet Guide Awards, Basalt and Chef James Diack received the ‘Haute Performance’ Award for ‘Provenance’.  Judges in each regional team carefully considered those who paint the perfect picture of provenance, delving into what is growing on their doorstep, foraging, creating an industry around local suppliers and interrogating their origins to make a contribution to South African cuisine.  It was an exceptional honour to receive such a prestigious award this year.
