Upgraded Classic Rooms & Suites

Upgraded rooms reopen for 2023

We are incredibly excited to share images and a brief overview of our newly refurbished ‘Classic Rooms’ and ‘Peech Suites’.

By defining the meaning of “classic” as high quality, of lasting value, archetypal and traditional, through this refurbishment we wanted our original rooms (built between 2004-2010) to realise these qualities, to be timeless and robust. Our original guest rooms carry a piece of the hotel’s history – to refurb them consciously and cleverly was of huge importance.

In reimagining these rooms, we’ve created a consistent visual language throughout the hotel. Our approach was based on the idea of permanence and reliability, using the best quality finishes and, wherever possible, sustainable materials to minimise environmental impact. For example, decorative wall hangings in guest rooms are printed on rPET fabric, recycled from plastic bottles.  These conscious choices help limit our ecological footprint, a key consideration given our commitment to Fair Trade and Sustainability in Tourism.

The defining principle of our design ethos is to prioritise comfort and function, and support local designers and craftspeople. From shop-fitters and stone masons to upholsterers and furniture makers, most of the pieces featured in these rooms are custom designed, making use of the most incredible local talent and specific skills available in Johannesburg and South Africa, and offering guests tactile glimpses of uniquely African artisanship.

Working with our long term design and interior partner, Aparna Ramani (@_aparnaramani) we are incredibly proud to have worked with the following local designers, artists and craftspeople:
